The Euro
On January 1, 2002 euro notes and coins
were introduced in the countries of
the European Union (EU).
As of April 1, 2003, twelve EU countries
had started using the euro as their official currency:
Austria
Belgium
Finland
France

Greece

Luxembourg,
Netherlands
Portugal
Spain

Denmark and the United Kingdom have
opt-out clauses stating they are not
required to adopt the euro.
Sweden will adopt the euro as soon as
they have fulfilled all of the requirements.
